GLOBAL CONSISTENCY
Over the years, green building pioneers in communities worldwide have found many innovative ways to adapt LEED locally. Built on the lessons learned from those experiences, the LEED International Program emphasizes global consistency at its core.
A globally consistent LEED provides:
-
CERTAINTY: No matter where a building is located, LEED certification represents the same standards of rigor.
-
CONFIDENCE: In an international job market, LEED Green Associates and LEED APs will be recognized for their professional leadership no matter where they seek work.
- CONSISTENCY: Multinational companies can embrace LEED across their portfolios.
- COLLABORATION: Green building councils and organizations worldwide will share a common framework for sharing ideas and experiences.
- CAPACITY: Green building organizations can focus their resources on education and innovation rather than rating system administration.
LOCAL OUTREACH & SUPPORT
Even in a global system, the work of green building happens locally. The LEED International Program supports project teams, policy and government leaders, advocates, educators and others worldwide with the resources they need for success:
-
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING: Discover the many ways you can access quality education for yourself, your project team members, facilities managers, decision-makers and other stakeholders no matter where you are in the world.
-
ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH: Access the resources you need to spread the word about LEED in your community.
-
MEMBERSHIP: Learn what membership means for your organization.
-
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS: Identify yourself as a leader in green building technology, best practices, and the rapidly evolving LEED rating systems by earning your LEED Professional Credential.

REGIONAL APPROACH
Addressing regional differences will make LEED even more relevant around the world. The LEED International Program opens the dialog that enables LEED to speak to regional realities:
HOW IT WORKS:
- International options provide alternative paths toward achieving LEED credits that can present challenges to project teams outside the United States. Rating systems with international options will be available in early 2011.
- Absolute values focused on performance metrics will replace referenced standards whenever possible. This will happen as part of LEED's ongoing evolution process.
WHO MAKES IT HAPPEN:
- The LEED International Roundtable, with representatives from green building councils and organizations around the world, provides regular feedback on international options and the LEED International Program.
- USGBC's member organizations from around the world maintain their critical role in driving the ongoing development of LEED through committee review and voting on new versions or changes to LEED.

- As with U.S. projects, the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) oversees the certification process of international projects and administers the LEED Professional Credentials.
